Wakey Wakey!

"The heights of great men reached and kept was not attained by sudden flight, but they while their companions slept were toiling upwards in the night."

 - Winston Churchill - Former British Prime Minister

This quote by Winston Churchill refers to a sleep. Lets look away from the natural sleep for a second and consider the sleep that many seem to be in at the moment. ‘Sleeping’ away your teenage years, will certainly come back to hunt you.  Your life is a space of time between your birth and your death. Your life therefore is basically time. Success in any field comes from investing considerable time building the relevant skills.

Today, ask yourself this questions:

  1. What sleep are you sleeping while others are toiling away in the night?
  2. What heights could you reach in a year, 2 years, or even 10 years if you would just wake up from this sleep and invest your time?
  3. What skills could you start building now to get you to the top of field,  career or area of interest?

You don’t want to be saying in 10 years time, I wish I had learned this skill when I was younger, I could have been ( fill the blank) by now. wondered what kind of sleep Bill Gates mates were sleeping when he was learning programming in his teens or what slumber Beyonce friends were engaging in when she was rehearsing, singing, doing shows and going on tours even when she did’t feel like it.

Please wake up. Curb your sleep and make the best use of tour TIME. Remember; Time lost can never be regained.

It Starts with Setting Goals

Every great achievement starts with setting goals.

Don’t be intimidated by the word ‘goals’ It simply means making up your mind on what you want and when it will be done. Goals still needs to be: Clear (what is is exactly you want  to achieve?), Measurable (so you can gauge if you have achieved them or not), Time Bound (When you plan to achieved them. it could be a day, a month, 10 years, a life time?) and they need to be written.

But why do you need to set goals?
Here are 5 reasons why every teenager should set goals.

1. Switching off outside noise (phones, social media, game,TV. You know what your distractions are!) and settling down to write what you want to do forces you to think about what you really like or are drawn to. It helps you get in touch with your real self and draw from somewhere deep within you on what you really want to do or be.

Nobody knowns you like you do, but sometimes the noise around us is so much that we don’t even hear our inner selves speaking to us. - Get in touch with you. turn off all distractions and write down a goal for this week, month, year, or even your life time goals. Here's a helpful guide on Finding your Purpose specifically created for teenagers.

2. Setting goals helps you direct your focus. When you have a destination, it automatically points you in the direction you should be heading. It gets you thinking about how to get there. You may not have all the details at first, but you at least have an idea where to start.

3. Once you start setting goals and achieving them, it boosts your self confidence. You start to believe in yourself and your ability to get things done. This in turn makes you set more goals and achieve them. Yeah, you're on a roll! This is how champions are made.

4. if you don’t have a dream, how can you have a dream come true? The process of setting goals actually involves visualisation of what could be. You don’t necessarily have to tilt your head back and gaze into space, but what you are really doing is dreaming. Envisioning what could be. Every great product, invention or achievement  was first seen only in the eyes of the dreamer(s). Dreaming is the first step in setting goals. Make sure you don’t just visualise, it - Write it down!

5. Setting goals puts you in the top 1% of teenagers and dramatically increases your chances of success in life. An Harvard study conducted on effects of setting goals on members of an MBA class showed that those students who had goals out-performed those with no goals. However, those with written goals performed even 10 times better in life than those who had not written down their goals.

Start the habit of setting goals today. Remember, you won't be a teenager forever and forming success habits like goal setting increases your chances of success in life.

IF YOU DONT HAVE A DREAM, HOW CAN YOU HAVE A DREAM COME TRUE?

if you don't have a dream-motivational quotes for teenagers

In this article, you’ll learn what purpose is and why every teenager needs to find their's. You will also be able to download a FREE template to guide you through identifying and defining your purpose.

Purpose is one of the fundamental pillars of success. To be truly successful, you need to have a dream, an objective, an overarching goal for your life, which is your very purpose for living.

Definition of Purpose:

1.   the reason for which something exists or is done, made, used, etc.

2.   an intended or desired result; end; aim; goal.

3.   determination; resoluteness.

4.   the subject in hand; the point at issue.

5.   practical result, effect, or advantage.

Now, lets look at the first 2 of these definitions and why it’s so vital for success.

Purpose Definition 1: The reason for which something exists, is done or was made.

You are not on this earth by accident. Every human is unique, and just as you have a unique DNA and fingerprint, you also have areas of strength and weakness, you have interests different from other people. You get excited by things that bore others or upset by things that others overlook or vice  versa. You may feel passionate about an issue or dream of finding a solution to a problem that infuriates you. You may wish someone would come along and solve a problem (that someone is probably you).

These are not coincidences, they are pointers to your purpose, they point you to your passion.
Your chances of success are a lot higher when you enjoy what you are doing, and it aligns with your natural talents, like and dislikes.

Purpose provides you with a target; achieving this target results in success. Essentially you achieve success when you achieve the goals that you set based on your purpose.

You were born for a purpose, so you have the talent, attitude, and interest in it. You are actually drawn to it like a magnet.

Purpose Definition 2 : An intended or desired end; goal
At the end of your journey here on earth, how do you think you will be remembered. What would be written about you very many years from now long after you have passed away?.

I know, you don’t want to think about that now, but it’s important. Actually, this is the best time to think about it. It means that you can start early to work towards your goals. Identifying your end goal, the very reason for your being will help you visualize and work towards your life's goal.

Then You Win

"First they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win."

then you win motivational poster for teenagers

True words indeed. Anything worth doing will first draw ridicule, then as you ignore the mockery, it will graduate to anger. But if you stick to your guns and fight for what you believe in and keep working at it, eventually, you win!

Don't be dismayed if you are at the laughing stage, everyone laughed at Arnold Schwarzenegger when he said he declared his Hollywood dreams, but that did not stop him from surpassing all expectations. Most great achievers have been laughed at one stage or another. The thing is, once you win, the laughter stops.

It doesn't matter how big your goal is and how impossible they say your dream is. Remember:

“Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they've been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It's an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It's a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.” ― Adidas Advert

I encourage you today to accept that your goal can be achieved. Start now by writing it down, do your research to understand what it will require of you, then break it into small attainable steps and focus on doing these. Most of all, start, and don't let the laughing, or the fighting stop you.

DO TEENAGERS NEED TO SET GOALS?

if you don't have a dream motivational quote for teenagers

Yes they do; and here's why.

It Encourages Thinking - The process of setting goals demands that teenagers think beyond the 'now'. It's a fast paced world with a million distractions per minute (games, TV, computers, apps, you name it). Actually sitting down to think about goals and envisioning the future, forces them to stop and engage their minds on what could be. Please note that the goals need to be written.

Action - By now we know that goals need to be SMART. Do keep the list short to start with, and don't stop there. For each goal, ensure that there are at least 3 actions that need to be carried out to see that goal realized. Setting the goals and identifying the actions required to see them accomplished, sets teenagers up to take action. They learn early in life that a goal is not a wish list. It's more of an action list.

Accomplishment - Goals set, check! Actions to accomplish them, check! Review process? Yes, measuring the results periodically and feeling that sense of accomplishment is extremely motivational. Even if they don't hit moon, they'll be in the good company of the stars. On the other hand, the review process could reveal that they're way off course, in which case the goals and actions may need to be reviewed.

Start Now - What are you waiting for? Start setting goals today. The goals could be around your studies, developing new skills, making friends or even starting a business, most importantly, it should be about your life's purpose.

All you need a fresh notebook or preferably a motivational, purpose designed, goal setting journal such as our Can Do Journal - The Perfect Motivational Planning Tool for Teens and Young adults. Loaded with inspirational quotes, including quotes from Can Do- A Collection of Inspirational Quotes for Teens and Young Adults.
